Welcome welcome Haere Mai

Jill and I live in Hamilton New Zealand on a two acre lifestyle block. We have had a love of acers for over ten years. Our garden occupies most of the two acres and includes over 160 Japanese maples with about 60 different varieties. We have almost exhausted all known varieties in New Zealand so our collection has slowed up somewhat. Our Government has very stringent regulations which makes importation very difficult. We have come to know the main growers and breeders in our country which is very few but that makes the hunt for new varieties all the more interesting. We will endeavour to load up photos of our garden in the near future. It is called Ahuru Mowai which is Maori (our indigenous language) for peaceful haven. We look forward to making contact with other maple lovers. Cheers!  Clive

Hi,

I tried to germinate a number of seeds last winter, both Bloodgood and Viridis. That was February when I put them in the fridge. In April I had a number of sprouts but only 2, both Viridis, survived. Now about 5 inches tall, I think they will make it. Do you have this cultivar in NZ?

Regards,

Alex.
