Question When to Prune

I have 3 grafted plants. One is to small to prune yet, the other 2 are 1 and 2 years old, they are both pretty tall and thin. I have one branch on each, that this season has shot out about a foot and a half. I am in central Arkansas and the temps are around 90-95 degrees F. I am assuming I would prune in the fall, but this long crazy branches make me wonder if I shouldn't cut it back now. Any thoughts. My neighbor gave me these plants and recently passed away. I am very new with growing these and could use the help.

Hi,
You can prune them now, so that instead of wasting its strenght feeding that branch it will be strenghtening the main trunk, if they are in pots place them in a shady position.
